morgenfield's malacca review // foodie

If you're a meat lover, you definitely know about the franchise Morgenfield's, known as the home of sticky bones. They serve Mid-West American flavors, and not too long ago, a branch opened in Malacca, and I dined there this nice afternoon and here is what I have to say about it.

Clever

Perhaps it was because it was a new store, and of course I can't blame the entire franchise, but most employees were young men, which is no problem, but they all seemed fresh-faced and confused and did not have answers for most of our inquiries. Our waiter was quite hospitable though and seemed to know the menu better than his colleagues. He made some recommendations, and in the end between my mother, grandmother and I we ordered some garlickey pork ribs and the threesome sliders.

Due to some delays (apparently last night they had a staff party, so the chefs came in late), the hospitable waiter gave us some grape Fanta and charged it as plain water, so that was nice to him.

The environment of the restaurant is fairly nice. It feels like a tavern, and it does feel quite American and Mid-Western (I visited Missouri last winter, but I can't exactly say I know it very well or much at all, but it did remind me of one of the restaurants we dined at). There's some wall art and funny art hung up that added to the mood as well.

if you can't read, one of the posters say: bear, helping ugly people have sex since 1862
The walls are made of mismatched wood that makes it very inviting and more personality to the restaurant. One of the walls are made of bricks, further making the place feel more cozy.

The drinks were served in adorable mugs that I've learned is one of Morgenfield's signatures.

The ribs are very smokey and flavorful. The garlic tastes great, the meat is easy to pick off the bones and very chewy and soft. I'm not too big a fan of coleslaw, but it tasted fresh. The fries were incredible and you can tell it's not processed. Some of the potato peels are still on the fries but it adds to the texture and flavor. It wasn't too salty and it was chewy and crisp too. The fries honestly was teh real winner for me.

The sliders were great. The buns were a little too thick and too filling and the pork meatball one, which was the one I tried, was a little too soft and crumbly and I would've liked it more a little more cooked.

Upon asking, the waiter mentioned that by downloading the app and registering, you get a RM20 off your final bill, so do check that out if you happen to be visiting a Morgenfield's.

The final bill came around RM 60 after the 20 ringgit off e-voucher. It was pretty worth it, and it was a good environment. Will go again for the fries, and it's good to go with a family of meat-lovers, but honestly, probably won't be going again soon. It was super filling so probably wouldn't return alone. Like a said, it's good to get a platter with a large family, it's more worth it that way. Also, a good hang out with friends for dinner and if you want, maybe some beers all around.

Thanks for reading,
Claudia
